ARTICLE SUMMARY:

The MedTech Strategist Global Investment & Partnering Virtual Summit 2020 opens On-Demand access on October 15, with participating medical device investors overwhelmingly saying that right now is the time for creative and out-of-the-box solutions from the global medtech community, in light of the previously unimaginable challenges and opportunities created by COVID-19.

We have a lot to talk about. Together we can reimagine and inspire our industry’s future.”

This is the theme of our Virtual 2020 event, and it couldn’t be more fitting, according to senior executives from some of the more than 85 investment firms who are joining us online with a mix of pre-recorded and live sessions, starting this week. With the COVID-19 pandemic (and the pending US Presidential election) as a backdrop, the resilient and inventive medical device industry is not just waiting on hold for the public health emergency to pass. Investors and innovators alike are busy reinventing, rethinking, recalibrating, realigning, and re-envisioning strategies and funding trajectories, with investment booming in areas including digital health and diagnostics. Encouragingly, these represent positive signs overall, that will hopefully serve to “lift all boats” during this unprecedented, continuing global crisis.

According to the participating investors who we reached out to for their assessment of the current medtech investment climate as our Virtual 2020 event gets underway this week, right now—eight months in to the pandemic—is the perfect time to come together as a community, THINK BIG, and be extremely creative about solutions going forward. We can’t wait to see how our community comes together with truly inspiring solutions at Virtual 2020! Response to the Virtual 2020 event has been unprecedented, with the program featuring more than 125 start-up presenting companies and 480 attendees, from more than 26 countries. On-Demand access for the event opens October 15th, 2020. One-on-one virtual meetings will then take place November 16th-20th, 2020.

Here are perspectives from just a few of our valued participating investors:

"This year our world and industry has experienced unprecedented challenges. We've navigated these the best we could, and as we approach the new year with the possibility of having this virus not dominate every aspect of our lives, this is a unique opportunity to think collectively about how we approach the future.  I'm looking forward to exchanging ideas on this, perhaps revealing some new opportunities for ways to build towards the brighter future that is most certainly ahead."

Josh Makower, MD, General Partner, NEA

"As an active investor in a constrained environment, the Virtual Summit is exactly the forum we’re looking for to stay in lock-step with market trends and investment opportunities.”

Paul LaViolette, Managing Partner, SV Health Investors, Medtech Convergence Fund

“The entire life sciences industry is getting a lot of attention these days. It’s an unprecedented opportunity to catch, actively investing, now."

Diana Saraceni, General Partner, Panakes SGR

“Innovation is needed now more than ever. COVID may be challenging our industry, but we must continue to be creative and think bigger. The medical problems we are solving and the patients we serve need our dedication and ingenuity to find solutions.”

James Eadie, MD, Partner, Sante Ventures

“The pandemic has exposed flaws in our global healthcare systems, flaws in how we keep our population healthy, how we manage the care for the sick and how our hospitals operate under severe pressure. However, the last 8 months have also taught us the power of healthcare innovation, the impact it has on our society, and I believe the fundamentals for investing in life sciences are stronger than ever.”

Jennifer McMahon, Principal, Seroba Life Sciences
