President Joe Biden moved into the White House and a Democratic majority officially took control of Congress Wednesday, setting up a new context for policymaking in Washington, D.C. The first focus will be on White House executive actions seeking to undo or pause a raft of Trump-era policies, including late-stage, so-called “midnight” regulations. Meanwhile, mostly interim heads of departments and agencies will take control as the new administration continues to roll out nominations and the Senate kicks off confirmation hearings alongside a parallel impeachment trial of Donald Trump. Congress will also start to consider actual legislation, including Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief proposal that includes an array of healthcare provisions.
