ARTICLE SUMMARY:

PolarityTE’s platform technology maintains cell and tissue polarity across many types of cells, tissues and composite structures, enabling regeneration of fully functional tissue for treatment of wounds and injuries, including hard-to-treat burns.

As residents in the world-renowned reconstructive and plastic surgery program at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (JHU), Denver Lough, MD, PhD, and Edward Swanson, MD, saw the devastating impact of inadequate treatments in patients with many kinds of wounds and injured tissue: scarring, pain, infections, immobility and worse. They had met at the beginning of their residency in 2012 and immediately struck up a friendship, based partly on their mutual interest in resolving obvious and tremendous gaps in care.
