Over the past decade, Keith Grossman has had not one, but two billion-dollar exits, first with Conceptus and, most recently, with Thoratec, the LVAD company Grossman ran for a decade, executing a successful turnaround of a struggling company, before leaving only to return and lead it to its 2015 acquisition by St. Jude Medical. Technology and market development were critical to both Conceptus’ and Thoratec’s ultimate successes, but Grossman’s real accomplishments lay in a genius for execution.
