AI strategy, EtO reprieve, and more:
Trump AI plan. The Trump administration published widely anticipated plans July 23 to remove regulatory barriers and support US leadership in artificial intelligence. The framework directs federal agencies to identify and repeal policies that “unnecessarily hinder AI development and deployment,” and it instructs agencies with funding authority to assess whether states have overly restrictive AI regulations before awarding funding. The administration also plans to establish regulatory sandboxes, including with FDA, to help deploy AI tools, and to launch sector-specific efforts to accelerate development of national AI standards. The plan is intended as a departure from the now-revoked 2023 AI executive order from President Biden, which put more emphasis on protections from misuse, harm, and bias from AI.
