What we’re watching for:

CMS rules. A substantial slice of 2023 Medicare payments policies will be settled sometime in the next few weeks, when CMS is expected to publish final rules for physician fees, hospital outpatient services, home health, and end-stage renal disease, among others. A few points to watch for in the upcoming rules:

  • Ablation payments: Whether CMS will heed pleas from cardiologist groups including the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society to rethink a provision in its proposed Physician Fee Schedule from earlier in the year that would reduce work estimates (relative value units) for cardiac ablation and lead to significant pay cuts for atrial fibrillation ablation procedures.
