Spirometrix: A Novel Biometric Helps Personalize Asthma Care

article image
ARTICLE SUMMARY:

Spirometrix has developed a point-of care device that measures levels of nitric oxide in exhaled breath, a biomarker of airway inflammation that’s present well in advance of airway obstruction. The company aims to enable asthma pattern recognition and pattern management, so asthma exacerbations and the costs of acute medications and hospitalizations can be reduced or even prevented.

Every day in the US, 44,000 people have an asthma attack; 4,700 of them end up in the ER, and ten people die due to asthma. Asthma creates a high economic burden and takes an enormous human toll.
