RIST Neurovascular: Radial Access for the Neurovasculature

article image
ARTICLE SUMMARY:

Although extensive data suggests safety and procedural advantages associated with radial access, a common access method in interventional cardiology, most neurovascular surgeons' experience is dominated by open cranial and femoral entry. RIST Neurovascular aims to facilitate radial access with a device specifically designed for the anatomical demands of the neurovasculature.

Eric Peterson, MD, chief of Endovascular Neurosurgery at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine, is focused primarily on surgery on the blood vessels of the brain. To reach cerebral blood vessels, he says the majority of surgeries now use a minimally invasive approach through the femoral artery in the leg rather than open cranial surgery.
