It sometimes feels as if the time just prior to the COVID pandemic was more like decades ago than just a couple of years. In the mid-to-late 2010s, one of the hottest topics for medtech companies was how to tap the opportunity represented by China. Not only were Chinese investors showing increasing, if anecdotal, interest in funding US companies, but the vastness of the Chinese market, underscored by changes in reimbursement that were opening up even more opportunities, seemed to create a window for US-based start-ups to tap a market that would otherwise be out of reach. The question: how actually to access the Chinese market?
