Loop Medical: Finding a New Solution to Blood Collection

ARTICLE SUMMARY:

While diagnostic testing has undergone much innovation over the past several decades, the way we collect blood for testing is still done the way it always has been. Swiss start-up Loop Medical is trying to change that with a needle-free device that extracts blood from capillaries, not veins.

Based at the Swiss Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland, Loop Medical SA was founded in 2017 by Arthur Queval, a micro-technical biomedical engineer, as a kind of spin off from a company he had previously launched called QloudLab, a point-of-care diagnostics company. Loop’s goal: simplify the collection of blood needed for routing lab testing, and in the process make collection safer and more economical.
