ARTICLE SUMMARY:

A Michigan-based start-up’s transformative approach to fully absorbable bone fixators and more centers around an exclusive material innovation.

Entirety Biomedical CEO Jake Edick began his career in R&D at Boston Scientific in the absorbable metal stent program, eventually leading the project which focused on magnesium stents for coronary applications. As the coronary stent market evolved, the program was deprioritized and Edick recognized an opportunity in another clinical area with a greater need for an update in absorbable metal implants: orthopedics. “When it became clear that none of the alloys currently being used in the ortho space were really meeting osseointegration and performance requirements, that was the genesis of Entirety,” Edick recalls. At that point, he and his co-founder Carolyn Woldring set out to create an alloy with the versatility to address the diverse needs of the orthopedic market. Originally known as Magsorbeo, the company was rebranded to emphasize that its products give patients and surgeons the surgical performance and stability of current implants through the healing process, before disappearing entirely to restore the bone to its natural state, providing complete healing.
