Alva Health, winner of the 2021 MedTech Innovator Global Competition, is developing a unique wearable system capable of remotely monitoring high-risk patients for stroke or TIA. The system operates around the clock, even while the wearer is asleep, and automatically sends alerts when something is amiss.
Nearly 800,000 people in the US suffer a stroke each year according to the CDC, and every four minutes someone dies of a stroke. When a stroke hits, “time is brain,” and the faster a patient receives treatment, the better the outcome in terms of recovery and prevention of long-term disability. However, there is a short time window in which to safely deliver the limited treatment options currently available for stroke.
