Record Year for M&A; Is the IPO Window Finally Re-opening?

ARTICLE SUMMARY:

Our quarterly reviews of medtech dealmaking and public offerings have had a recurring theme throughout 2017: a strong M&A market counter-balanced by a virtually non-existent public market. That finally appears to be changing. In Q4 we might have witnessed the re-opening of the IPO window for device and diagnostic companies, while deal-making remained active, resulting in a record year for total medtech M&A deal value.

The boom for device M&A took place in a year that saw a decline in overall US deal-making, both in terms of the number and total value of all deals.
