ARTICLE SUMMARY:

The EAGLE trial showed Olympus’ cloud-based CADDIE AI outperforms standard colonoscopy in real-time lesion detection—marking the start of Olympus’ broader push to use AI for improved detection, therapy, and workflow across its clinical portfolio.

For more than 80 years, Olympus Corp. has helped push the frontiers of endoscopy into routine clinical practice across multiple specialties. Now the company is advancing the field again—this time with the first AI-enabled, cloud-based system for real-time screening colonoscopy. Its performance was demonstrated in the recently published results of the multicenter randomized controlled trial known as EAGLE.

The EAGLE trial enrolled 841 patients and involved 22 endoscopists across eight centers in four European countries. Participants were randomly assigned to undergo either standard colonoscopy or colonoscopy assisted by Olympus’ CADDIE—an AI-aided detection software application designed to help endoscopists identify suspicious colorectal lesions.
