iO Urology: Filling a Crucial Need for Data

ARTICLE SUMMARY:

Objective data has been sorely lacking in urology. iO Urology is now replacing inaccurate and incomplete “bladder diaries” with a handhand held device patients use at home to offers precision and consistency of data.

Britton Garrett, CEO of iO Urology got to know the company’s founders, Brent Laing, MD, and John Green, MD, both urogynecologists, when working at Medtronic. In 2014, Medtronic acquired their start-up, Advanced Urologic Solutions, the developer of a percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation therapy for overactive bladder. After that exit, the physician-entrepreneurs repurposed their energy toward solving a widespread problem in urology: lack of objective, high-quality data.

When they had the solution, they turned to Garrett to create an organization that could bring the innovation to clinicians for the benefit of patients. iO Urology was founded in 2020 to develop the CarePath at home diagnostic for patients suffering from symptoms suggestive of lower urinary tract issues, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or overactive bladder, conditions that impact more than 40 million people in the US.
