Agency officials outlined ongoing plans to modernize its inspection enterprise s in an official August 3 blog post. The post spotlighted the recent formation of an agency-wide Inspectional Affairs Council, bringing together leaders from each product center, the Office of Inspections and Investigations (OII), and other offices to ensure an “enterprise-wide perspective and operational accountability” for inspections. It also disclosed new operating agreements that spell out responsibilities for the product centers to establish inspectional priorities and for OII to execute field actions. FDA officials have also previously announced plans for a so-called “Simple Reform” to move away from product-specific field investigators to a more generalist approach. This week’s post appears to play down those plans, though they are not discussed in detail. “The next-generation OII workforce model is not a move to generalists — far from it; it has been carefully designed to deepen talent by expanding investigators’ capabilities, strengthening specialized expertise, and creating better career pathways that support mobility and retention across the FDA,” the officials write.
