Health Canada says it plans to propose changes this fall to grant holders of Canadian medical device establishment licenses (MDELs) flexibility to work with foreign distributors without an MDEL. “This would help reduce redundancy for stakeholders,” the agency said. The proposal was spotlighted in a broader report addressing “red tape reduction” that was published this week by Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada. The report also spotlighted a complete effort to remove reporting requirements for low-risk device recalls, among an array of other bureaucracy-reducing actions tied to device, drug, food, and other oversight areas. The report results from a government-wide “Red Tape Review” launched in July.
